Tennis Victoria, in partnership with participating Casey clubs will have a series of Open Court Sessions, where local residents can drop into their local tennis club for a hit, with all equipment supplied.

Time to tie up the laces and hit the court, but don’t despair, there’s no experience, or even partners required.
From 1 – 29 February 2020, eight local clubs will take part in a series of Open Court Sessions,

Sessions will run for around 90-minutes, with a 10-minute warm-up, followed by 50-minutes of tennis activities and then 30-minutes of socialising and will run across various times and days, depending on what club partcipants select.

Participating Casey clubs include:

  • Berwick Tennis Club
  • Clyde Tennis Club
  • Cranbourne South Tennis Club
  • Cranbourne Tennis Club
  • Devon Meadows Tennis Club
  • Fountain Gate Tennis Club
  • Hallam Tennis Club
  • Harkaway Tennis Club
  • Narre Warren North Tennis Club
  • Narre Warren Tennis Club

City of Casey Mayor Cr Susan Serey encouraged Casey residents to take part and use this as an opportunity to make new friends and learn new skills.

“This initiative by Tennis Victoria is a fantastic motivation for our residents to get out and try something new,” she said.

“With so many local clubs taking part, it’s an opportunity not to be missed, and might just open the door to a brand-new hobby.

“The best part about these events is that all you have to do is show up with a little bit of enthusiasm, and our dedicated tennis club’s will look after the rest,” Cr Serey said.

Local clubs are also opening their courts for hire, and cardio sessions, depending on what sort of exercise you’re after.

Casey residents, it’s time to channel your inner Ash Barty and score yourself an ace night out.

Athletes who will represent Australia for Tokyo Olympics 2020 can start their early celebration as the City of Casey and Skate Australia funded the upgrades of the Shed Skatepark into a high-performance training facility.

Casey Mayor Cr Susan Serey, is excited about the positive impact the facility will have on the community.

“The upgrades are a very exciting addition to this already very popular venue, and will no doubt open up different opportunities for our grassroots athletes to reach their full potential and progress to higher levels of their sport,” she said.

The upgrade will include:

  • Stage one of the upgrades commenced last month and included the installation of a world class ‘street course,’ with adjustable rails that can be used by all levels from beginner to elite.
  • Due to commence in January, stage two upgrades will include the installation of a ‘Resi Surface’ extended onto the vert ramp (half pipe). Made with a foam base, the resi provides skaters completing big tricks with a safe and soft landing.

The community is welcome to come and check out the upgrades in progress and once the upgrades are completed all community members will have access to the state of the art facility!

In the meantime, The Shed Skatepark is open as normal with only certain sections closed off at certain periods to accommodate these works.

Once all the upgrades are completed, all community members will have access to the state of the art facility. For the meantime they are still welcome to come and check the upgrades in progress as the skatepark is open as normal with only certain sections closed.

Local sports clubs keen to make healthy changes for their members and community can now get access to free support from Monash Health.

Monash Health, working in partnership with City of Casey, is running the Healthy Sports Clubs program which helps create healthy changes at a local level by giving clubs access to one-on-one support from a health promotion professional across a range of health initiatives.

There are nine focus areas that clubs can choose from: Healthy Food and Beverages, Active Recreation, Responsible Alcohol Consumption, Preventing Drug harms, Sun Protection, Smoke Free Clubs, Injury Prevention, Inclusion, and Mental Wellness.

Clubs can pick an area they are already focusing on, or they can pick an area that they feel needs to be addressed. Clubs receive ongoing localised support and a suite of resources to help them along the way.

City of Casey Mayor, Cr Susan Serey said local sports clubs were an integral part of the local community and Council was proud to support programs that strengthen clubs and create a positive and healthy environment.
“Children, youth and families spend a lot of time with their sports clubs, so healthy changes in the club environment can positively impact the whole community,” Cr Serey said.

“As most local sports are run by volunteers, it is wonderful to see a program like this which is free, allows clubs to work on projects at their own pace, and provides ongoing support to make lasting positive changes.”
