The\u00a0<\/span>team\u00a0<\/span>has\u00a0<\/span>held\u00a0<\/span>more\u00a0<\/span>than\u00a0<\/span>16\u00a0<\/span>community\u00a0<\/span>activities\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>last\u00a0<\/span>12\u00a0<\/span>months,\u00a0<\/span>attended\u00a0<\/span>by\u00a0<\/span>over\u00a0<\/span>3,000\u00a0<\/span>residents\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>overwhelmingly\u00a0<\/span>positive\u00a0<\/span>feedback\u00a0<\/span>from\u00a0<\/span>those\u00a0<\/span>involved.<\/span><\/p>\n Balla\u00a0<\/span>Balla\u00a0<\/span>Ward\u00a0<\/span>Councilor\u00a0<\/span>Geoff\u00a0<\/span>Ablett\u00a0<\/span>said\u00a0<\/span>local\u00a0<\/span>events\u00a0<\/span>were\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>good\u00a0<\/span>opportunity\u00a0<\/span>for\u00a0<\/span>people\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>meet\u00a0<\/span>new\u00a0<\/span>people\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>community\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>local\u00a0<\/span>services\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>their\u00a0<\/span>neighbourhood.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn emerging communities where housing is built before much of the infrastructure arrives, research shows that forming social connections within those neighbourhoods can be more difficult,\u201d Cr Ablett said.<\/p>\n \u201cThrow into the mix limited public transport, greater distances to employment and relocating away from family and friends, and social isolation can become an issue.<\/p>\n \u201cThe SNC team usually holds three events in each area and we find that attendance grows with each one as people get to know each other and word spreads in the community.
