Casey Councillor face grilling

Councillors from Casey Victoria who voted for projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars in Victoria’s biggest and fastest-growing council area face grilling about alleged business dealings with, and undeclared political donations from, John Woodman, the developer at the centre of the Victorian anti-corruption commission’s investigation into land deals in Melbourne’s south-east.

On Monday, the Independent Wide Anti-Corruption Committee is scheduled to launch three weeks of public hearings in Sandon, Victoria’s largest evidence of land and planning bribery for decades.

Operation Sandon explores the issues of October and November last year, including those posed in stories in the Sunday Age. Former Mayor, Councilor and liberal activist Sam Aziz who left the country on extended leave weeks ago when Operation Sandon began, and homes and offices have been searched, is unlikely to appear at the hearings.
